Sauvignon, who is now almost 6
years old, added to his long list of winnings
when he took the Overall Supreme Limousin Championship
for the second year in a row, and Overall Interbreed
Championship at the Great Yorkshire Show on
Tuesday 10th July 2007.
From the largest breed entry within the beef
section and from a very strong section of young
and mature bulls Sauvignon was awarded the overall
Limousin championship by the day's judge, well
known breeder and former British Limousin Society
Charman, Mr Peter Henshall, Sarkshields Farm,
Eaglesfield, Lockerbie beating into reserve place
the 44,000 guinea bull Willoge Vantistic.
With the Limousin championship safely tucked
away, Sauvignon then went head to head against
the other breed champions. In front of
all the day's breed judges, he amassed a tremendous
score, featuring a few perfect 20s, to capture
the overall interbreed title by the large
margin of 12 points.
In march of this year, Sauvignon
made history by being the first bovine animal
from the United Kingdom to attend the SIMA Show
in Paris, France, were he was crowned European
Limousin Champion, as well as
male champion and champion carcase animal. He
is also the first Limousin bull in the world
to have sexed semen made available.

Commenting
on the champion, judge Peter Henshall said "Sauvignon
displayed tremendous width from his shoulder
right through his loin and moves vey well for
such a big bull, especially with difficult conditions
we had in the ring today .
The Brothers were delighted with their win, and
thankful that the show was not cancelled due
to the recent deluge of rain in the Harrogate
area. Raymond commented, "The sun was out the
whole week but the conditions in the ring were
still pretty bad. Sauvignon weighed in at 1.62
tonnes, and with that amount of weight
hitting the ground, he just sank into it. He
triumphed despite this, and it was a great week
for us".
The Crawfords had not just Limousins at the show,
their Belgian
Blue cow Radieuse, purchased
for a UK record price of 30,000 guineas, won
her class and went on to form part of the winning
interbreed group of five for the Crawfords. Radieuse
also won her class the week before at the Royal
Show at Stoneleigh. This is the first time the
Crawford Brothers have shown Belgian Blues at
the Royal Shows in the UK.
