The first Sauvignon calves have been born in Canada
Monday, 8th March 2010
Mr David Sandilands from in Canada purchased Sauvignon semen, both conventional and female sexed via the Crawford's website in 2008 for use in his pedigree DJS Limousin herd which is run alongside a commercial Limousin herd.
During February alone 130 calves have been born,
in extreme harsh conditions and heavy snow.
Mr Sandilands has 6 Sauvignon calves on the
ground at present, including the first full polled,
and the first female calf from female sexed semen.
“On the whole we are very pleased with them, they were all easy calved and up and suckling straight away, we are looking forward to the next batch cows to calve to Sauvignon,” he said.
David is in the process of ordering another
batch of semen from the Crawford's,
Raymond commented,
“ This is great news, Sauvignon is proving himself all over the world, I have no doubt in my mind that he will become one of the most widely used Limousin sires all over the world”
